Somewhat gracefully aging, the Darke Hall Five are, in their own minds, one of Saskatchewan’s premier rock ’n’ roll dance bands! Performing much to the amusement of themselves, the troupe plays only for charities, specializing in the hits of the 1960s to the 1980s, with some modern classics thrown in for good measure.

While not performing, band members barely manage to hold down day jobs at their home base, the University of Regina.  They are:  David Gerhard, Professor, Department of Computer Science (drums and vocals); david Gregory, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Nursing (vocals, percussion and keys); David Malloy, Vice-President/Research (bass and vocals); and David McLennan, Editor, University of Regina Press (guitar, vocals and harmonica).

The band’s origins can be traced to the fall of 2011, when the President of the University asked Malloy to come up with an idea to get to know the members of the University Leadership Team. Encouraged to tell the group something about themselves that no one else knew, it was soon discovered that more than one of them had latent musical talent, so they got together and started playing.

The Five has experienced a couple of membership changes over the years (mostly to ensure that all members are named David) hence the numerically inaccurate name. They have played a wide range of venues, from music festivals to basement fundraisers, and they always have folk up and dancing.
